Thirst
I completely disown my previous review. I was fluent in bullshit at the time, and I hate most of my old reviews. Okay, so I first saw this film around a year ago, and thought that it was mid, but quickly realized I was a dumbass and that this is a masterpiece. I say a surprising amount of bullshit in my initial review. Last year, I thought it was trying too hard to be different. Today, I realize, it's not "trying," it just IS different. The "circles" the plot is moving in? That's the point!
I feel like the momentIi realized it was a masterpiece is when I was trying to think of a plot for a novel, and I was thinking of a starting point, and I thought of this film, and quickly realized that if I had created this plot, I would have been sooooo fucking proud of it, since it's genuinely an amazing plot!
I also say that the movie needed more "thought." Man, this movie is nothing but thought! The directing here is also stunning, like visual poetry! Also, this movie may be a bit slow, but I think I was exaggerating it initially, as it's very entertaining. The score is also great. The final sequence is also just a perfect way to end the movie and is stunning in every way possible.
The movie also tries to balance multiple genres: horror, pitch-black comedy, erotic thriller, romance, and drama, and it balances its tones perfectly. I also just appreciate how bold this film is. I mean, there isn't really any director who can make a film like Park Chan-Wook can, so it's no surprise this film is so bold and unique. The film is also artistic and intellectually engaging, and is very ambitious.
Overall, Thirst is an underrated Park Chan-Wook film, an underrated horror film, and just an underrated film in general! It's complex, thought-provoking, artistic, intellectually engaging, stunningly directed, and I could go on and on. I should really see No Other Choice LOL, I'm sure it's a masterpiece, so I'll get to it eventually.
