Sinister

Slightly conflicted with this as it’s right on the edge of being a 4 for me. The film has some of the most well crafted and genuinely terrifying jumpscares that I’ve experienced in a horror film. The super 8 films are some of the most interesting modern horror scenes and Derrickson’s direction in them is really great but unfortunately a lot of it outside of these I didn’t love. Ethan Hawke is great as always, his descent into obsession and paranoia is excellent but unfortunately a fair bit of the family drama didn’t land in the same way for me.
