Punch-Drunk Love
I can’t talk this movie up enough. I was a little skeptical watching another Paul Thomas Anderson movie after watching One Battle After Another because I didn’t like it that much, but this reinstalled my appreciation for his movies completely. There are so many perfect elements to this movie for me, but I’m gonna start off with what stood out to me most which was the cinematography. The way he uses the camera is unlike anything I have ever seem before. It had me transfixed and in awe the entire movie, and when he used the iris shot I actually got goosebumps I was so impressed. The car scene at the end too just blew my mind and how unique and amazing it was. Next is the score and soundtrack, which his use of the super fast drums puts you into Barry’s state of panic so well you feel completely stressed out which I admire a lot. Even the music he uses I feel like fits the movie perfectly. Next is just the little details that makes this movie great. When Barry punches the wall and it spells out love on his hands I loved it so much. I think that’s my singular favorite detail of any movie I’ve ever watched. Another one Is when he can play his musical instrument perfectly at the end showing growth. Adam Sandler actually plays a great character which I haven’t seen before and everybody was great too, including Phillip Seymour Hoffman. The love story is so amazing too I love how they progressed and how Barry matured for them. This movie makes me want to watch more pta movies so bad bc this movie was so good for no reason. I went into this with kinda high hopes and it exceeded all of them. I know someone who will also love this movie and I’m gonna show it to them which increases the experience even more for me. Literally so awesome this is like the longest review I’ve ever written too it was that good to me
