Jojo Rabbit
A film that has been received the wrong way by many.
Personally, I thought it was brilliant, although I can see why the tonal shifts are too drastic for some. I adored this film from start to finish, regardless of the controversy that seems to surround it. I just can’t help but love everything about it. Yes, it does feel somewhat Wes Anderson but honestly I see no issue with that. I also think that people fail to see that this is the situation thought an innocent child’s eyes - he sees Hitler as his hero, a combination of the men he has seen in his life and the things he has been told. This film does not humanise Hitler, nor Nazis. It shows them through the eyes of a child who was LIED to. The film is comical at points, intentionally, but I think it quickly diverts from comedy and shows the utter tragedy that the war was. The tone changes with Jojo’s feelings. We see the world and the Nazis, and the Jews from his perspective. That is why the film is the way it is. It is to show how brainwashed yet innocent the youth of Nazi Germany were. However, do I think PERHAPS the adult actors should have dropped the German accents like the children? Yes.
