Waves
Seems to me like those who piss all over Waves for being “pretentious” are too pretentious themselves to simply enjoy something for what it is. I think the film, on its own, is a heartfelt drama - it’s good, it’s well crafted, it’s brilliantly acted, and it’s a well-told story. The white directors comments about the film being autobiographical and “colour blind” certainly rubbed me the wrong way, but I truly believe his intentions were genuine, and the film as a stand alone piece is somewhat beautiful.
