Poor Things
One of my favorite movies. An exceptional film that not everyone appreciates as it should be.
First of all, we must appreciate the visuals. Every scene impressed me from an aesthetic point of view. The first part of the movie is in black and white emphasizing bella s innocence and ignorance. Then we can see the color change which highlights the progress she makes. An extremely important detail!!
I have seen quite a lot of criticism regarding the large number of sex scenes and the fact that they are inappropriate. On the contrary they are an essential element in bella s evolution. At first, she is only able to say one word and that is mispronounced. The way she reacted and the way she ate were typical of a child. So we have the initiation phase. Later, we can gradually observe her evolution as she discovers sexual pleasure. This is a very important factor even if it is criticized. Women are not made of stone and they have sexual desires too.Max was the right man for her. Although he initially opposed her adventure with Duncan he eventually accepted the idea, realizing that bella needed adventure and experience to evolve and not remain stuck in the initiation phase. Duncan is the perfect example of today s possessive men. He preferred bella in her innocent phase when she only did what suited him. A young, naive girl with sexual fantasies; she was perfect for him. But when she started doing things he didn t like, such as leaving without his permission or allowing another man to touch her, he showed his true colors: possessiveness. He couldn t stand the idea that she was evolving and that he could no longer control her.I liked the scene where Bella was asked why she was still with him and she replied what many women still say today: "I always think it will get better." The thought that he could no longer control her drove Duncan crazy in the end.I liked the fact that Max accepted Bella for who she was. He gave her the freedom to experiment. I think that, in the end, we all need a "Max" in our lives; someone who supports us and lets us continue our adventure until we discover ourselves.
A wonderful film that I will watch again and again
