Chernobyl
7/10
Well I finally watched it and it was good but nothing spectacular. Don't get me wrong, it achieves what it sets out to do really well but that's just it, it felt way to safe for me.
I also prefer fiction a lot more than non-fiction so this didn't have the best odds to be something I would rate really high but I really enjoyed it for what it was.
But for what it was it was really good and the production and presentation is outstanding. The characters were serviceable but nothing great and because I value thematic expression and characters a lot this didn't do it at all for me but It was exactly what I expected. It presented the subject in a very tasteful way but It felt a little to patriotic sometimes and it was a little to westernized for me. I get that it would be a lot harder sell if it was in Russian but it's still worth mentioning.
I get why people rate it this high and good for them but I look for a little more then just entertainment, I want riveting characters, a overarching plot, great themes and media that says something and this was just not that.
I also found Skarsgårds performance quite bad as it never felt real and I never believed him as that character. Many people like him and that is why I am a little suprised because as a fellow Swed his performances are not all that great.
Still a good show and many people have enjoyed it and for the people that are interested in Chernobyl and don't care about my values this is probably right up your alley. But this being almost higher rated than Breaking Bad (even though I am not an Breaking bad overrater) is fucking unbelievable.
I don't have a lot to say about this show as this isn't really up my alley but still a good show.
Best Episodes (or in this case a ranking):
1. Vichnaya Pamyat
2. 1:23:45
3. The Happiness of All Mankind
4. Open Wide, O Earth
5. Please Remain Calm
And the only true character is Valery Legasov so he's the best character I guess.
