Babylon

Oh my god. I get it now. Everything that didn’t click with me on my first watch just fell into place this time. Nothing felt out of place, everything just worked. How the fuck did this film flop? More importantly, how the fuck did this film not get a SINGLE Oscar nomination?? Why aren’t we talking about Babylon all the time??? Everything here is done perfectly, but the best part is probably the pacing. For a movie that’s over 3 hours long I was never tired of it, and I never felt that runtime. I started this at 9pm for some ungodly reason, and now that it’s after midnight I can say that I never once felt like turning it off and saving the rest for tomorrow.  The music here is insane, like phenomenally insane. Dare I say it’s the best Damien Chazelle film score? Would that be so wrong? Camera work is fucking crazy here too, I’m a huge sucker for how much they whip that camera around. Like any chance they get they’re whipping it all around the scene from character to character, and then they’re on the ground running around following everything going on. The camerawork makes everything feel that much more alive. This genuinely might be the greatest tragedy of all time. It just perfectly encapsulates that feeling of being the very best, being absolutely perfect, and your star power fizzles out, and the world chews you up and spits you back up, and the only true way to avoid it is to get out and never look back.  Maybe I’m just really jazzed about this right now, but I’m giving it a 5/5 because right now I’m just really feeling it. I haven’t really stopped thinking about this since I watched it for the first time, and now that I’ve finally seen it again it really just solidified how good it is. I really had issues with the last 40 minutes on my first watch, but like I said before, it just worked for me now. It all flowed.  I still have my slight issues with the extensive shit and vomit gags, but hey what can you do. It’s literally my only small gripe with the film and I’m not letting that bring me down. BABYLON FUCKING RULESSSSSSS‼️‼️
