My long awaited rewatch of this finally came. I do think it’s better than the first time I watched it, but I still cannot give it a perfect 5/5, simply because I was way too tired when watching this (it’s currently 3 am as I’m writing this).
The film is still as brilliant. An incredible depiction of how extreme living conditions strips us down to our most basic and human instincts: hunger, lust and survival.
The tall grass is such a huge part of the film that it basically becomes a character. Constantly waving, obscuring our vision, acting like a maze, a trap, an endless loop. People in the film are regularly emerging and disappearing into the grass, perfectly mirroring how the characters’ morality are all murky and changeable.
There are a lot more things to be said about this masterpiece, but I suggest you just watch it. The full movie is available on YouTube.
