Hamnet
I mean wow... I was transfixed from minute one. Everything worked for me here. The staging, directing, performances all had me enthralled. Loved how it almost felt like the whole film was performed on stage.
I absolutely get all the praise Jessie Buckley has gotten for this role, one of the best performances I´ve seen of the last couple years, if not more. I think Paul Mescal quietly too had a fantastic presence on screen, loved his awkwardly stumbling over words. And Jacobi Jupe, wow. Could be the single most heart-breaking child performance I´ve seen.
Such despair and grief put to screen makes this an uncomfortable watch, but I really loved every minute of it. The way they worked the play into the last scene and seeing Agnes reaction to Hamlet was haunting, and perfectly wrapped up her grief and gave her a chance to pick up the pieces of herself and family. Can´t express how much this worked for me.
Might be my new frontrunner for the Best Picture race, sorry PTA...
