Rear Window
random movies that are supposed to be good that I haven’t seen #6/36
Slowed down on this little series and frankly there was no better movie to pick it up with.
This film really is a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
The camerawork is very impressive not only for the time but even now, considering a few of these shots had me pretty impressed. And James Stewart is pretty good as his dick like character, however his ass says “well hold on now/now wait a minute” like 150 times. The writing is honestly pretty perfect, feeling incredibly natural throughout the film. However the two biggest things in this for me were the set design, and cinematography.
The expectations I had for this film frankly had nothing to do with these two aspects, and I was blown out of the water by how vibrant the set was whilst feeling grounded nevertheless. Colours are also used to perfection in this film, as it always seems to fit the mood, and the shots where you are looking at the room of the ballet dancer, and in the bottom left corner, is that sliver of the diner and the people walking by, truly feel magical, considering the difference in lighting, and therefore emotion.
Frankly I’ve just been blabbering because of how much I love this movie, not to blow anyone away, because I’m sure this exact review has been written 100x better already, so I’ll leave it at that
10/10
One of my all time favs
