Minority Report
I just really like this movie. It has one of the best openings and set ups to a movie. Definitely some of Spielberg’s best work as a director. Tonally, this movie thins the needle between his later, more drama leaning political thrillers, and his earlier pulpy adventure movies. It’s like an edgier, drug addled Indiana Jones that spends less time in exotic locales, and more time in dilapidated apartment complexes. Tom Cruise’s Tom Anderton has less of a need for a six shooter and more of a need for an ad blocker in a future dripping in the corporate trappings of cyberpunk. I won’t say it’s a completely flawless movie; the third act isn’t quite as good as the first two, but when you really like something you tend to not care as much. But now you can’t trust me because I’m blinded by love. I could have been making all of this up, or I’m in a more hallucinatory and/or existential state than your standard Philip k Dick protagonist.
