True Detective

SEASON 1 REVIEW is it crude to only review the first season? i have a feeling i wont be in the minority by doing this. rust cohle is a beautiful character brought to life by matthew mcconaughey. i can’t see anyone else playing the character and doing it to complete justice like he did. the acting is all amazing. a note i have is, the nature of the killer wasn’t maximized to me. i think the killer being a "stupid pervert" type character wasn’t really believable, given he evaded sharp minded detectives for almost 20 years. if the killer was intellectual like the detectives, it would be more believeable as to how they got away with as much as they did. the atmosphere of a 90s southern rural area was perfect for how the story played out, and definitely gave the show a unique aesthetic. i enjoyed the character arcs of both rust and marty, and watching that span of their lives play out was a good choice of structure. i love this show so much, and maybe my high expectations leading into it damaged my view on it very slightly, it’s still so amazing to me. rust cohle is one of my favorite characters ever.
