Nowhere
This HAS to be the most unpredictable movie ever and it is really one of the few that genuinely left me speechless at the end cause like WHAT WAS THAT IDK??
It's all so chocking and depressive and surreal, but it is for these very reasons that it is, to me, the best representation of teenagehood and that is why I think Nowhere is still sooo relevant today.
It felt like watching a parody of all the clichés and realities of teenage life, of all the goods and all the bads, of all the things that feel like you missed out on but that are actually depicted like a neverending nightmare through this movie's dreamy lenses. But it was all so beautiful, so visually pleasing and then put in contrast with all the horrible weird shit that was happening simultanuously to these characters. I think that Gregg Araki really managed to capture every single teen experiences through each of them : the intensity of teenage love, the brutal death of innocence, the numbness of just living, all the crowded parties that never end well, death of loved ones, exploring sexualities, violence, lust, drugs, EDs etcetera, etcetera...
In the end, most of these characters had such sad stories, hidden behind this "alternate" world that's honestly just an exaggerated version of ours. Life in this movie just look so violent and messed up and yet so familiar, so close to home even if you've never experienced something as crazy as an alien abduction or whatever... but I feel like so many of these characters are so easy to relate to when you're in your teenage years, when the world really seems like its completly doomed and falling apart, in every era and every generation..
