Before Sunrise
Linklater delivers a superb linear romantic story. Both performances in this film are excellent and both actors have great chemistry. The clash of American and European in this film are heavily emphasised, I found that was very interesting. I also really liked the camerawork at the beginning of the film in the train, which follows every single person on the train. I think it really represented each persons insignificance in this film, while also making us, the audience, question how they ended up on the train. This links to the main theme of this film, which is fate. The constant rebellion of control and authority by both of the protagonists showcases their resistance to order and reason. The theme of fate is also emphasised by the palm reader, which is a brilliant scene. All these little random interactions, and the protagonists fateful love story explore what controls the people we meet and why, as a society.
A really brilliant romantic film, and one of the best ever made.
