GoodFellas
Might be my favourite film of all time.
The helicopter sequence alone is one of my favourite things Scorsese has ever directed, it’s honestly pure cinema. The cinematography throughout is some of the best I’ve ever seen in any film, and the score is textbook Scorsese, used in the most effective way possible.
The acting is superb across the board. While this isn’t my personal favourite De Niro performance, both Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta arguably deliver career-best work. Liotta in particular is unbelievable here, and it’s a shame he didn’t do more films of this calibre because he proves just how great he could be.
Goodfellas has everything. It’s the perfect example of its genre and from what I've seen it's got a very very strong argument for being Scorsese’s greatest film.
