Jaws
So out of the 20 things I would love to talk about I’m gonna start with the underwater photography, as of right now I am absolutely clueless on how they pulled this off but I am going to watch the 50th anniversary documentary right now to find out, those underwater shots were absolutely perfect in every scenario they were used start to finish, it also helped lead into the my favourite part of this film which was the build up and anticipation, I was on the edge of my seat every time those underwater scenes would come up and it hooked me right from the start, this paired with John Williams score was genuinely amazing, he is a brilliant composer and every time the music came on it added not only to the scene but the whole story.
I’ve always heard the “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” without fully understanding what it meant to the story until I watched Jaws today. Brody’s immediate response to realising the scale of what they were up against and feeling completely underprepared, reminded me straight away of the scene in Jurassic Park with Grant’s seatbelt not working properly, showing how underprepared the park was for people to be there.
This scene just helped add onto Brody’s character as well, his fear of the water as well just made him the perfect character for his role and how he was so careful on the beach just developed his character even more for me to see who he would be and what kind of place he would take later on in the story. Seeing how his fear was presented throughout the start of the film and the dolly zoom used was just perfection, honestly this film is so well crafted I am almost frustrated I’ve only come to terms with this masterpiece now.
