Doona!
To my surprise, Doona was oddly comforting. I thought it would be another cliché, but I was hooked entirely. I felt so many emotions throughout this drama. I felt deeply for the characters. The dialogues are relatable and at times, it could be very introspective.
There are lots of things to note from each character. From Doona, who almost lost everything in life with no willingness to live, we see her slowly fighting her demons, trying to seize opportunities, and grappling through her clouded past to find herself again. From Wonjun who takes everything cautiously and seems like the blueprint of a good boy who is very compassionate, he keeps failing to see his self-worth. From Jinju, who seems to always take every step courageously with a smile plastering her face at any moment, all she ever wanted was to be understood and to be loved entirely for who she is, but she was trapped in a dark pit of thinking she didn't deserve love for never wanting anyone to see her fragility.
All of the characters are unique and flawed in their own way. They're fighting their own battles and it made them exist naturally. It feels humane, making you relate to some of them at certain levels. And I think that what makes watching Doona can be very comforting.
I love how the relationship between the characters is handled maturely. A relationship is always packed with miscommunications and misunderstandings. Witnessing a love triangle can also be very suffocating. But I love how it exists in this drama. Between Jinju to Wonjun and Doona to Wonjun. How they handle confessions. How they open up their feelings for each other. How they confront the ambiguity and the problems in their relationship with honesty. The plot might seem slow, but the conflicts are not dragged out. The relationship blossomed between the girls is also very precious.
This drama has its flaws. Several things bother me from technical and storyline standpoints. But the cinematography! It was perfect. I love all the wide shots, they are stunning and so eye-pleasing. I also love the tone, creating this whole calming vibe, making me want to savor every moment in this drama.
Overall, this drama is beautiful. I forgot to mention how it uncovered the dark side of idols. It's truly heartbreaking to imagine how it possibly mirrors some people's lives. I enjoyed how the story progressed and how the characters developed. It is light and very binge-worthy. And despite all its flaws, I was pleased!
