Lovely Runner

“my fate is, no matter in which time we meet, past, present, or any other, I'll fall in love with you.” it has been so long since the last time i'm this attached to a kdrama. of numerous romance kdramas out there, i think one of the reasons that made lovely runner appeal so much to me is its play on the red string of fate. no matter what happened, how different the circumstances, or how many times one's tried to change the fate between the two, what's meant to be will eventually find its way... i saw some people mentioned how the time travel plot in lovely runner is a little weak because the future changed too many times or how they played with fate too easily. but i think that's exactly the point of lovely runner and the writer is brilliant for that. instead of using time travel as "you can't do anything to change the future." instead, you can change the future, even for matters as important as life and death, but what could never change is the string tying them. as long as they're still living, they will always be tied to each other. it's exactly that one saying... till death do them part... the string might be tangled due to some unfortunate events—sol's memory lost or sol removing herself from sunjae's past—but regardless of it all, the string could never be broken. this is why i found the plot in episodes 14-15 is important. how necessary it is to have sol remove her presence from sunjae's life and trying to not stumble upon him anymore.... because the moment they met in a different situation, in a different timeline, the moment sol smiled at sunjae, he fell for her all over again. as easy as that. it didn't have to be that moment in front of her house, it didn't have to be the young naive sol, because no matter what happened to them, he would fall for her, again and again. in the past, in the future, they will eventually find their way to each other again... so many unfortunate accidents, so many deaths, so many attempts to change the past, yet... and yet.... the overall concept is simple, but it is so well-written and so well-executed. and the parallelism!! everything is so well thought out. to watch lovely runner is to realize how beautiful fate played a role in life. to watch someone falls for the same person again and again, to find them in every universe, and to love and be loved in every circumstance..... i'm just a sucker for soulmatism sobs
