Sinners
this movie was even more amazing on 70mm ultra panavision holy shit
i think this was my fourth or fifth time watching sinners, but seeing it in 70mm ultra panavision genuinely felt like watching it for the first time. like, i know this movie, i know the story, i know what’s coming, but i had never seen it like this. the texture, the saturation, the way everything just breathes… i was kind of in awe the whole time.
also, the audience?? i missed this. people gasping, laughing, reacting, someone behind me literally sobbing at the end… that’s so real. this is exactly the kind of movie that lives better in a room full of people.
and somehow it still keeps revealing new things to me. every single time. little details i swear weren’t there before, like the way smoke’s mojo bag actually protects him when stack tries to turn him, or that subtle shift in the background when annie talks about hoodoo, where everything kind of blurs and bends just enough to make you feel the magic. it’s so intentional, but never loud about it.
and the twins… i genuinely don’t understand how they pulled that off on 70mm. i stopped trying to figure it out and just accepted it.
also, stack and mary losing it when annie dies??? that moment sticks with me every time. there’s still something human in them, even inside the hive mind, and it hurts to watch.
i have do much more to say that yap about but i don’t know how to articulate anymore.
i don’t add new favorites easily, but yeah. this is one of them now. officially in my top 4.
10/5, 1000/5, whatever. i’m never shutting up about this.
god i love cinema.
