Priscilla
i’ve got so much to say and so many thoughts on this but first of all i’m so glad i finally got to watch it after MONTHS of excited waiting.
now before i went into priscilla by one of my favourites in the game, the one and only sofia coppola, i read elvis and me by priscilla presley, watched hours of old and new interviews of her and tried to understand the life of this admirable woman. and i kind of think that that was a mistake regarding this film.
to start with the good, coppola knows how to make an aestheticaly fantastic, technically perfect, movie. the storytelling was perfect and sofia my queen just understands how to tell women’s stories. cailee spaeny played priscilla beautifully and truthfully and i absolutely adored her in this she was the perfect choice for this role. i also wanna mention the make up and costume which was just so on point and everything i wished for it to be.
now speaking of things i didn‘t like that much - i just really wished sofia would‘ve made this longer and adapt way more scenes of the book. i felt like sometimes, especially towards the end of the film, the dept and character developement of our priscilla was missing if you‘ve read the book before. i wish we would‘ve seen even more of her perspective, thoughts and feelings. the other thing that i didn‘t like as much is the ending because i think the film only showed elvis worst side and even though i support that i feel like priscilla‘s feelings towards him even after the break up and till today got lost somewhere which plays a very big part in the book and her story.
all in all i had a great time watching the very anticipated priscilla and such as after every sofia coppola film i am stunned by her talent. i adored it but i think for fans of the book it might be a little disappointing.
