Sing Sing
“are you done?” “no. i’m not done … isn’t that fucking hilarious?”
starting the campaign for colman domingo’s oscar right now … that scene during the dress rehearsal … omg. everything about this movie is so beautifully crafted, but the real cherry on top was finding out that the majority of the actors in this were former inmates who served time in sing sing and who were genuinely part of the rta program. it made everything feel so much more genuine, especially the scenes involving their character work. my absolute favorite was the warm-up where they envisioned their perfect spot, down to the weather and who they were with and each of them reflected on the happiest point in their life. i was in absolute tears as i found myself reflecting on my own happiest point, and narrowed it down to when my family and i would have movie trips every sunday and we’d sit in the car watching trailers as we tried to come to a verdict on which movie we wanted to watch … granted, being the only child, i often won that decision. truly goes to show that i’ve had a movie theater addiction from a young age though.
definitely a very emotional watch, which isn’t saying much for me as i cry over just about everything, but i was very moved to hear sniffles amongst the audience, as well. clarence maclin and sean san jose were truly stand outs too and their chemistry with domingo truly helped make the movie what it was. loved the inclusion of the real clips from their production throughout the credits and the dedication to those released from the system and those who continued to remain within confinements while making the best of it.
