SLC Punk
“what do you do when your foundation falls apart? i don’t know. they don’t teach you that in school.”
woah … i was just expecting a silly little movie about two punk dudes but woah … this was truly just fueled the dread that comes along with the inevitable confrontation with adulthood
everything about this is perfect; the characters are amazing, particularly lillard’s stevo who perfectly provides a personal and introspective look into the mind of someone caught between idealism and the harsh realities of life … also his fourth wall breaks were everything to me and i’d always find myself looking forward to them (that’s coming from someone who usually finds them incredibly cliche) i also love how every character represents a different aspect of the punk scene as it truly highlights how diverse the subculture is
the fast-pacing editing and frantic camera work truly aid in capturing the rebellious spirit of the film, although i’m more so astonished in how the film manages to balance such an amusing and humorous portrayal with one of genuine emotion; i was a complete wreck towards the end as stevo’s disillusionment comes into play and he finds himself questioning the very foundation of his beliefs, as it’s something that’s all too familiar to anyone in their early 20’s … the ending with bob, despite his constant persistence against drugs throughout the film truly feels like a wakeup call towards how unjust and random life can be sometimes, only further fueling the complexities of growing up
