Asteroid City
This will forever remain one of the most special movies to me. I remember seeing it a few months after its release, and I absolutely adored it. Up until that point, I had seen Isle of Dogs when I was younger, but back then I didn’t really have a grasp on what a director was or any of that type of stuff. And without a doubt, this movie made me fall in love with cinema.
This one in particular is an excellent showcase of Wes Anderson’s change in style, still retaining that darker, sentimental tone he used to have. But also mixing those pastel colors and iconic cinematography. Is it his best? Not even close, and it’s hardly even a five-star film to be honest. I just had to give it that because of his impactful it was to me. (However, it’s also a pretty damn good movie). The cast in this movie might also be one of the best casts of all time.
It introduced me to what movies could be, opened my eyes to the stranger side of film. And from that point on, it kickstarted my deep dive into Wes Anderson’s filmography. Since then I’ve seen everything he’s created from the two-minute commercials to the features. And for that I will always love it. If it wasn’t for this movie, I’m not even sure I’d be as into cinema as I am today.
