Parasite
I went in to this film with one thing on my mind. The 2018 South Korean film burning. In my mind, burning was already was the best film to come out of South Korea even though I’ve only seen like 2 or 3 films from South Korea. I knew that parasite was going to test that belief. Parasite was a great take on societal norms and classes but in a different way. There is no real wrong person between the obvious poor and the obvious rich. It’s almost like we’re seeing certain people as the villain, a parasite, belonging to a class lower than the poor, a danger to society. Attaching to themselves of other people’s plans. We are shown a reason why poverty exists, the scamming and distrust that tears people’s lives apart. But with all this in the end it’s a moving film about systems and structures. Quite funny too was not expecting that. But I still believe burning was a better film.
