Amadeus
Amadeus is an absolute masterpiece. The magnificent costumes, stunning sets and dynamic camera work capture 18th century Vienna as accurately as possible. Every frame is a painting that breathes the glamor and decadence of the era.
The film shows a characterization of madness, it shows a hard-working and ambitious man who, to his own shame, realizes that some things require more than just practice and dedication. Antonio Salieri - the court composer to the Austrian king - loves music, as it truly seems to be something divine, as its beauty is almost unmatched. Nothing is more important to him than this, which is why he devotes his entire life to it. But the unavoidable comes. Mozart enters his life, a young, inexperienced and completely vulgar fool with no sense of manners, who is nevertheless blessed with the talent to play the music of God simply from his head.
The performances here are simply phenomenal. F. Murray Abraham as Antonio Salieri delivers a performance of such intensity that you can literally feel his inner decay. His eyes burn with envy, his voice is shaking with suppressed rage - Abraham makes Salieri the embodiment of madness, a man so consumed by jealousy and hatred that he dedicates his life to destroying Mozart. This loneliness, this obsession, drives him deeper and deeper into insanity, so that he ultimately believes he must destroy Mozart just to finally defeat God himself.
And then there's the music - Mozart's compositions are not just the soundtrack, but the soul of the film. From the majestic The Marriage of Figaro to the heartbreaking Lacrimosa from the Requiem, every note is a testament to Mozart's incredible talent and Salieri's pain. The music is so masterfully woven in that it intensifies the emotions of the characters and almost transports the audience into another realm.
Even if you're not particularly interested in it, I think it would be important for everyone to get to deal with this music. Classical music by men like Mozart, Bach or Strauss is more than just music, it is more than just "nice". This music is pure art, pure perfection, in some parts it is actually completely immaculate. Personally, I am always very cautious about using this term, especially in connection with films, but in one topic I can fully say that this is the case. No other musical genre has and will ever achieve this level of perfection and fulfillment as classical music. And Salieri is right when he describes it as a gift from God, because I can't explain this pure beauty to myself any other way either .
