The Last Samurai
Why on earth did we stop making films that immensely moves a person, teaches how to appreciate and learn through life. I wasn't ready for this movie the first time I saw this. Like I may have had not the maturity. I was in the first year of my college at the time, and I watched it out of sheer curiosity, but I had forgotten just about everything ever since. So, having returned to this film so many years later, I was able to enjoy it more, having had a better exposure to the bushido code or hierarchical etiquettes/ mannerisms or rather ways of a samurai, which is the trademark and most fascinating aspect of the Japan history & culture. This film is the one which intrigued me to explore more about Japanese history.
Very sound in its depiction of old Japanese customs, traditions & way of life, featuring an interesting story, convincingly performed by the cast, benefitting from impressive work by the crew, and steered by beautiful music from Hans Zimmer, The Last Samurai is a story of romanticism vs modernism, purity vs corruption, and a conflict of two different cultures.
