Generation War

The Best War Movie Ever Created... There has never been and I claim that there never will be a film that cna portray the events of the Second World War more accurately, objectively and indeed humanly from a German perspective as Generation War will. Following the lives of 5 Berliners during the war the film doens't focus that much on the external politics of the time as much as the personal perspectives and inner interpetations of the regular people and main characters that live through them. Characters like Friedhelm punctually rerpesent this goal of the film. Firedhelm is a character that manifests the answers of some very important questions of the War. How could a civiised nation do such unspeakable crimes against humanity? How can a person who is anti-war and is a fan of humanism be brought to become the ideal German soldier? What comes thgouh the mind of the perpetrator? Throughout the duration of the plot we see him beccoming like his brother Wilhelm, who begins as a model soldier but then by the end he becomes evermore convinced that war is pointless and that humanism must prevail, while nevertheless not turning against his coutnry and retianing his principles. Friedhelm on the other hand retains his humanity with death in a very heartbreaking moment in the film. What truly makes this piece remarkable is the very historically accurate and objective portrayal of the Soviet Union, the Polish resistance and the US army (although very brief). You turlky get to understand why Operation Barbarossa happened, how cruel and unrelenting the Soviets were and why they were like that and how the victimised image of Poland is really not true to life at all and how the Resistance was at least as racist and genocisal as the Wehrmacht was and how civillians, pursued by all sides so often relied on the good graces of the local population to hide them. The film is tragic and hopeful as you experience the most insane and gut-wretching atrocities you can ever witness in cinema, yet you neverhtelsss remain hopeful for the future of each character, and very interestingly regardless of which side they are on and what their ocnvictions are. Nothing short of a mustwatch for every single human being on the planet.
