The Fall
Story telling doesn’t get realer than this. “The fall” tells a powerful daydream of a tale through the lenses of reality. To first glance this film appears as a lighthearted adventure with eclectic characters and vast saturated landscapes but it couldn’t be more irreconcilable. This is a story full of discomfort, unrequited affection, innocence, and selfishness all told through a hoax. What you want to believe is in the eye of the beholder. Roy’s storytelling portrays the masked bandit throughout the story as a chevalier, the ultimate warrior. But as the story progresses we see Roy himself starts to degrade, he loses all hope in himself. When we see Alexandria’s story we realize how much she idolizes Roy and how much hope she has in him. We see what she was willing to do for Roy. finally see through the deception of Roy’s story. we see how he really sees himself, not the great masked bandit, but a suicidal, drug addict, who’s lonely, bedridden , and most notably selfish. Through his guilt he starts to deteriorate the image of the great and valiant masked bandit that he curated throughout the story. He finally lowers the veil to show Alexandria that He’s not
The great man she think he his.* “*There’s no happy ending with me.” But fortunately this isn’t just Roy’s story. Now it’s Alexandria’s story just as much as it’s his. Alexandria refuses to see Roy the way he views himself . she restores the integrity and honor of the masked bandit and by doing this she rebuilds how Roy sees himself. Finally he saw himself through the eyes of someone who loved him instead of his own. “We’re a strange pair aren’t we?”
