Fitzcarraldo
WARNING: film contains real footage of me showing my friends opera trying to to show them how great it is
“yeah bro just drag that 300-ton steamship over the hill” - Werner Herzog at some point probably
watching this film and going “THEY ACTUALLY DID THAT?!!” cements it’s as just a jaw dropping, almost surreal experience. It’s insane what you could get away with in the early ‘80s. this film is utter insanity in both characters & filmmaking lore and for that i had no choice but to love it and be in awe at times. the rating is inflated by this.
what a journey. the actual plot and narrative is just the definition of an adventure but a slower, methodically paced one
