Inglourious Basterds
Genuinely the best film ever made
Monthly rewatch down
“I think this might just be my masterpiece”, Tarantino knew what he was doing with this film and yes definitely is his masterpiece. I think the most captivating part of this movie is definitely the characters especially Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) and Major Dieter Hellstrom (August Diehl). Both these characters give an uneasy feeling and are both extremely intelligent, portrayed by Landa in the restaurant scene with Shoshanna (Melanie Laurent) where we are hinted that he knows who she really is (for example purposefully getting her a glass of milk hinting at the first scene of the film with the cow farm) with out it being explicit and the same goes for Hellstrom in the bar with Hicox (Micheal Fassbender) where there are subtle hints that he knows that he is not actually a German officer (for instance during the card game they play), yet again it is inexplicable whether this is the case, until it is revealed with Hicox exposing himself with the British hand gesture for the number three.
Overall Tarantino carefully places these hints throughout the film leaving ambiguity for us as the viewers to interpret our own experience whilst watching the film and in someways making it an imersive experience.
