Obsession
saw this a couple days ago now and i literally cant stop thinking about it. conceptually this is a layup for me, it’s just so up my alley story wise and usually things like that usually end up falling a bit short but this absolutely did not so thx curry barker. this had easily some of the best lightning and blocking and editing and sound design i have ever seen. DEFINITELY a theater watch. i never really bring up blocking but it really was the highlight of this for me, every single shot was just absolutely perfect its fucking nuts. there was a noticeable lack of what i call filler shots.. i think the more technical term is an “insert shot”?? indie movies especially have really been abusing the fuck out of these and wide lens shots of pretty scenery that honestly never really have a purpose but every single shot in this actually has something going on and is following around the main character which i love and it really helped push this along. such a great stylistic approach to this story and it really felt claustrophobic and like you were trapped with the characters in it. just fantastic from a technical standpoint.
i didn’t rlly think this was gonna be scary but it REALLY freaked me the fuck out😭 largely impart due to technical side of things but the acting performance by inde navarette was somehow a bigger highlight. especially for someone who’s not really done much it’s definitely an oscar nom deserving role and the way things have been going maybe we will finally get some more horror rep in the awards circuit 😒🙅♀️
FUN FACT: i noticed that the bar they go to was called barkers which is the directors last name so that was fun.
this only took TWENTY DAYS to film. just nuts especially with how demanding some of the scenes must of been to act out😭
