Get Out
“i mean i told you not to go in that house”
this movie won’t ever not floor me when i watch it. jordan peele’s mind is beyond genius, and for a directorial debut he blew it out of the water — bending the rules of the horror film genre and bringing a refreshing taste of modern horror. it’s so perfectly eerie, from its score, cast, and visuals; it’s hard not to just want to pick apart every scene.
daniel kaluuya is great, and he brings such an important piece to chris that it really makes you root for him (where a lot of the times we’re just waiting for the main character to finally bite it). the raw grief paired with the constant uncomfortableness throughout the film creates such an interesting juxtaposition, which is what makes this movie so unique and captivating.
i watched this movie with the added commentary about peele’s alternative ending, and i understand why he changed it, but it would’ve been such a deeper gut punch with it. and while i somewhat wish i watched it for the first time with this ending, i also think the chosen ending gives me peace when i sleep at night.
