Okja
Bong Joon Ho you have done it again.
This was both the most beautiful and horrifying film I’ve ever seen. The beginning of the film was so beautiful and did a phenomenal job attaching you to Okja as a character rather than just some animal. The scene when Mija realizes her grandpa let Okja go and she ran all the way down the mountain was so emotional and really set up what was to come in the remainder of the film.
Now Paul Dano gets his own section because holy shit is he genuinely the best part of almost every film he is in. This dude had so much aura and was such an amazing character throughout the entire film. Even that post credit scene had me hyped because I knew he wasn’t done and he wouldn’t stop till all those poor pigs were saved.
The horrors in meat industry is a very important topic for me and this film did a really great job at portraying the horrors while also creating an entertaining and even funny film. I loved all the humor, it made the story quite whimsical despite the overlying topic of this horrific industry. Then when the main focus was those horrors the tone switch hit really hard and momentarily switched the focus from this Okja and Mija onto the bigger picture that is the whole industry.
Overall such an incredible film that nailed almost every aspect it went for.
