ok holy fuck wow scooby doo(2002) you’re actually perfect. i know i literally just wrote the other week that the second one takes the cake, but honestly idkkkk. these movies raised me. they’re basically fused into my dna at this point. and this is going to be absolute word vomit. first of all hilarious i am dying, like peeing my pants every scene. people who say it’s a kids’ movie are missing the entire point. as freddie prince jr said i mean it’s a talking dog. sorry THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY the soundtrack??? this is literally where i discovered Sugar Ray. COMEONNNNN. i still listen to this soundtrack when i need to calm down. it makes me feel warm and nostalgic.. also, and i stand by this, I could never watch this movie with anyone other than my family. i refuse to let anyone else ruin it for me by breathing wrong. this film is sacred ground. now, having also rewatched scooby doo 2 monsters unleashed for the millionth time, I have to acknowledge how stupidly genius these movies are. and because all good art deserves critique, i do have notes. number one the gang breaking up at the beginning? i get it, but also i really don’t.i know it’s neeeded for the plot but i kind of hate in both movies that every character gets down on them selves and feels belittled in the gang. THAT JUST WOULDNT HAPPEN. they love each other. ok second velma’s glow ups in both movies, why. was this in linda’s contract? let her either be hot the whole time or stop pretending that crunchy sweater is fooling any of us. ok also i’ll die mad that they didn’t keep shaggy and velma’s love interests in the sequel. they were TOP TIERRRR. finally weirdly i think shaggy and daphne / fred and velma had more chemistry in this movie but hey don’t point fingers. obviously even with my complaints, this movie is perfect. it makes me so stupidly happy. i can watch it any moment, any mood, any emotion. and yes my favorite quote remains fred saying im a man of substance. dorky chicks like you turn me on too. so no, i’m not choosing between the two movies anymore. high fidelity can sit out. my top 4 will hold both Scooby-Doo movies because I CAN.
