FLCL
In a way with all the radical factors I've deduced from watching this passion project, I can't help but confirm FLCL is five star. Everything just keeps getting better and more and more off the rails with each episode. Only by the finale do things start to kind of make sense but I'm totally fine with them not aligning either. Colors, crazy variety of animation, and an all out unyielding drive to show and tell what it wants not giving two fucks what you think as an audience member is awesome I think. The Pillows music constantly being a key role and even character to the short story itself perfectly built that tension in subverting what you're "supposed to feel" in a normal series like this. As an anime (or manga as it was argued in the final episode) I think it really does stand alone in its own category being difficult and even unjust to compare it with another anime. Granted anything Gainax makes visually has left me in shock thus far. I feel pretty solid about this small anime and sort of feel like to get the full breadth of its purpose it needs to be watched all in one sitting. I likely won't check out the following seasons unless I'm moved to do so otherwise.
