Bo Burnham: Inside

coming back 3,5 years later, I have to admit, it’s kind of a tough watch. it’s still great, don’t get me wrong but it has already dated quite a bit. seeing this without knowing if there’d ever be a ‘normal’ again was something kind of terrifying, realizing that the online existence that is so vehemently criticized in the special might be all that we have until who knows when. but now, after the ‘normal’ has returned and the special has been consumed and spit back out of TikTok about 20 different times through 20 different trends, it just comes across completely different. it’s more of a time capsule, a way to look back on how awful we had it and how glad to be we made it out. but celebrating that and enjoying it feels sort of wrong. I’m keeping the 5 stars, because it’s still one of my favorite pieces of media, and will hold a special place forever. but saying that it’s the same 5 stars I have all those years ago isn’t right. it’s more of an ‘I’m glad this was made’ rather than the ‘this is the best thing made’ that it used to be.
