BLUE EYE SAMURAI
yeah. this show fucks. hard. i love rewatching shit and seeing all of these details and plot points i totally missed 2.5 years ago when i first watched. a beautiful show with stunning animation and story telling, a good balance of gore and action with humanization of these characters and their own personal plots and growth. ugh. and don’t even get me started on the soundtrack and the way it switches from traditional japanese music to a mix of western rock music to show mizus clash of identity.
mizu is one of my favorite female characters of recent memory, episode 6 revealing her backstory and learning that the reason she’s on a path for revenge not rlly for her mother but moreso herself because she despises the men who brought her on this earth and brought gun powder and fire power into japan. rewatching, it’s so obvious to me how suicidal mizu is even if she herself doesn’t really realize it. she better than me tho cause if i was winning 1v12s on here every other day i would be like “HAH! and i’m a girl too!” and probably be hunted day 3. i also love akemi and teigens character but let’s focus on akemi.
akemi is a perfect foil for mizu in how both are women who want better for their lives than what society had pushed for them to have, however akemi shows extreme strength and perseverance outside of physical capabilities. akemi is so smart, she uses the privileges of growing up knowledgeable and noble and applying them to street smarts and manipulative tactics to survive in a world that wanted to feast her for the nearest suitor. tho that archetype for female characters isn’t new at all, the show gives us glimpses of both akemi and mizus struggle that would inevitably make their success much more satisfying. she isn’t such a one note character and she’s as funny and charming as the rest of the cast. i love how smart each character is and the overall purpose each one serves for the plot especially ringo and akemi to mizus character arc. ugh. i fucking love this show. i wanna fuck the shit out of mizu.
