Elf
Elf is one of the greatest Christmas films of all time. Starring Will Ferrell as the titular protagonist, this comedy film is about a human orphan who becomes one of Santa’s helpers. Eager to find his rather elfish (!) father after finding out that he is not a true elf, he sets out on a perilous journey. He passes through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, goes through the sea of swirly-twirly gumdrops and walks out through the Lincoln Tunnel before finally arriving in New York City.
Upon meeting his father for the first time, he is immediately thrown out of the Empire State Building by the security guards. He does not realise that his father thinks him to be a maniac and persists with his mission. After moving in with him, his wife and their son, he begins his new life in a very different atmosphere. However, just as he is beginning to settle into his new life, his relationship with his father starts to crumble completely. As Santa arrives on Christmas Eve, in dire need of help, Buddy the Elf’s brother Michael persuades the duo to work together and save Christmas.
The film is extremely comedic and Will Ferrell does an excellent job of making his character as estranged as possible! All in all, this is an extremely worthwhile watch and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to all.
