Sing Sing
there is an artist within everyone, no matter how deep its buried.
a deeply moving piece about human connection, compassion, rehabilitation, and art.
art is at the core of the human form. no matter where that human may be, and Sing Sing does a phenomenal job of showcasing that.
im so glad programs like RTA exist so some of these people can actually be rehabilitated. its very clear that it can and does work, made clear by the beautiful end credit sequence.
this entire cast from acting in the actual film itself to acting in the play were all phenomenal every second top to bottom. for them to come out on the other side and have a chance to tell their story to the entire world is such an amazing accomplishment. it sucks that it took jail time for them to find their artistic spirit, but i also think thats the beauty of it. in a place that is supposed to punish you, break your soul, and make you hateful. they found love, brotherhood, and most importantly and outlet to process their trauma and for alot of these guys to be vulnerable for once in their life. really is amazing what art can do for the human soul.
colman domingo is just absurdly amazing in this role. he gave it everything he had and then some. smashed it out of the park. i was also really blown away with the cinematography, it felt like every frame was its own masterpiece. time and time again i saw oscar worthy shots.
truly blown away.
