“our only response was to keep on going and fuck everything.”trainspotting is a refreshing look into addiction in comparison to how other films handle it. this film showcases the futility and hopelessness of life really well. nothing to do, nowhere to go… i really appreciate how this film has no romanticization of addiction. all of the characters actions have consequences that reflect into their daily lives— this is especially seen for tommy. unlike in some films, the main guy can do a shit ton of coke in the toilet and still be a regular, functioning man. you can see the weight their addiction and reckless behavior bears on their family life and their ability for decision making. i love the way they portrayed the relationships between the characters, specifically between the main five. in a way, they bring each other down and actively exploit one another— but they still stick together, because when youre in deep, you sure as hell dont wanna do it alone. and the monologues of renton are just brilliant, i had to rewind the movie multiple times just to hear what he was saying again. the writing had me in awe. so many quotable moments!! if i could id put the entire movie up there. in general, i liked this movie :).

“were you going to ask me about this? if i didnt ask you?”perfectly captures the feeling of built up resentment and loneliness within a relationship. both are thinking about the wrongdoings of the other but never truly discuss it. there is also this weird tone that is carried throughout the film where its as if sophie and greg dont really know each other, despite the fact that they plan on getting married. there were many scenes where their thoughts overlapped, yet neither of them choose to speak on it. you can almost feel the silence that they are sharing in the car that greg loves so much. + the shot of the loveless bed and simply the word “no” was complete melancholy. sophie and greg are really trying to love each other, but they simply cannot stand one another. “no sex last night.”

moiras spooky movie marathon 29/31 :) gosh i dont remember the first time i watched this, maybe when i was 9?? still its so much fun!! i remember being sooo scared of the little ghost children as a kid so it was fun to see this film again after many many years :). its really so beautiful and the plot is so creative!!!

moiras spooky movie marathon 28/31 :) certainly wasnt bad but really wasnt good either 😭. lots of questionable choices and at some parts the writing felt a liiiittlleee rushed, but overall its okay! i like the unique concept! fun little retro style horror :). the acting was good too! this is just one of those movies where you have to stop thinking to enjoy it.
