Trainspotting
“our only response was to keep on going and fuck everything.”trainspotting is a refreshing look into addiction in comparison to how other films handle it. this film showcases the futility and hopelessness of life really well. nothing to do, nowhere to go…
i really appreciate how this film has no romanticization of addiction. all of the characters actions have consequences that reflect into their daily lives— this is especially seen for tommy. unlike in some films, the main guy can do a shit ton of coke in the toilet and still be a regular, functioning man. you can see the weight their addiction and reckless behavior bears on their family life and their ability for decision making.
i love the way they portrayed the relationships between the characters, specifically between the main five. in a way, they bring each other down and actively exploit one another— but they still stick together, because when youre in deep, you sure as hell dont wanna do it alone.
and the monologues of renton are just brilliant, i had to rewind the movie multiple times just to hear what he was saying again. the writing had me in awe. so many quotable moments!! if i could id put the entire movie up there.
in general, i liked this movie :).
