moiras spooky movie marathon 13/31 :) not sure this counts as a horror movie but that was fun! after watching this i cant help but wonder how people idolize patrick bateman. i honestly thought he was very miserable and obviously written to make fun of a certain type of person. i almost feel puzzled on what makes his character “sigma”, is it the violence towards women? the narcissistic tendencies? what is it that makes him so appealing to young men!!!! the way i took this film is that mr bateman is a caricature of men who present themselves as cultured and artistic individuals but fail to understand actual art!! perhaps he does this to fit in with his businessmen friends, or hes having some sort of identity crisis. either way, his character is pathetic in how he is constantly one-upped by his fellow colleagues and is even called the wrong name multiple times. his only way to grasp onto the little power he has is to take it out on people that he deems inferior to him, but hes even bad at that! considering how “christie” almost escaped and how he started spiraling after paul allen, he isnt even an effective killer despite constantly bringing up real murderers and perhaps idolizing them. mr bateman is a man who simply cannot accept that he is nothing special. so all in all, what is so magnetic about this character that makes teenage boys want to be him? what about him is cool? but yeah. good watch. ;P
