How terror blasts in, how horror blasts out.
what a deeply unsettling, gut twisting, devastating movie. as a viewer, from the very beginning, the rot decaying this society is apparent long before the horror begins.
i’m absolutely obsessed with the visuals and experimental concepts of this movie. eg MIMA. i wanted to know so much more of this sentient machine but i'm entranced by the mystery of the miracle.
i really enjoyed watching the progression of perseverance and how the ways people coped changed over time. some viewers disliked the pacing of this movie. but for me, it made my feelings rise and fall with feelings of hope and then loss over and over again. it just works for what this movie is in my opinion.
the only reason why this movie is anything other than five stars for me is because i needed some of the characters to be fleshed out more. where did they come from? what motivates them? who are they apart from just their names? a lot of this movie is shrouded in mystery and that works for the genre, but not the characters themselves. that being said, the main couple had my heart.
the last fifteen minutes genuinely [REDACTED] my soul. this is the kind of movie you go to bed thinking about for the next several days. seeing that number at the end? bleak.
nihilistic sci-fi you’re everything to me.
