Nosferatu
where to even begin
firstly, the mood and atmosphere was incredible. the styling of the actors was beautiful. i loved the dresses and the hair and all of the set designs. the lighting was gorgeous at all times and complemented those amazing sets. the colors were blooming and sometimes cold and sickly. the score was enchanting and spine-chilling all at once. the framing of scenes were so parallel to the narrative, meaning, when a character is shown meek and lost in themselves, they are shoved to the bottom of the screen with space all around them to show just how small they are. when they are overwhelmed with emotion and everything is overbearing, the shot is blown up and only the character is visible. the transitions from sequence to sequence were flawless. in one scene, a transition from count Orlak to Ellen occurs and i didn’t even realize until half a second later where i processed that i was in fact looking at a woman. this film is just a visual masterclass.
secondly, the performances in this film were beyond good. not a single actor brought anything other than their best. i have to give the most props to Lily-Rose Depp. the extreme levels of contortion she was able to control throughout her whole body was genuinely impressive.
speaking of great performances, Bill fucking Skarsgård. had i not know beforehand that he was in this movie, never in a million years would i have guessed. this is his most transformative role by FAR. his entire self completely shadowed and cloaked by the great beast he plays.
if there is anything i wish we saw more in this movie, it would be to have moments were we see Count Orlak let go of his pose and terrorize in ways like we witnessed in the ship cargo.
regardless of my personal taste, this movie is a 10/10 in a technical aspect with a twinge of horny to come on the side.
