"I think it's nice we share the same sky."
this film resonated so deeply with me, while also quietly breaking my heart. when it starts you're not quite sure where it's going, but its gentle tone is subverted by a single act: calum spitting at his own reflection when he hears sophie talking about her tired bones.
there were a lot of small subtleties of someone silently suffering and just trying their damn best to keep it together for a loved one. the difference of calum's demeanor when he's with sophie and when he's by himself in his torment is clear.
I loved the parallel to an earlier scene where sophie is asleep in bed, calum puts the blanket over her, and heads out to the balcony; later we see sophie have to do the same for him. and she was unfazed, like it wasn’t the first time she’s had to do something like that. this film is about watching someone you love from a distance, never fully understanding the depth of their struggle.
definitely planning on re-watching this one. can't stop thinking about the ending.
