Alien
Man, this movie was outstanding. Amazing story with some awesome acting from Hurt, Weaver, Skerrit, Cartwright, and basically everyone involved with Weaver obviously being the standout. Visually it’s absolutely spectacular, it’s hard to imagine that a sci-fi space movie that came out in 1979 could look this awesome (outside of 2001 of course that was just an anomaly). What stood out to me most in the visuals were the scenes on the actual exoplanet and the scenes of the ship and general space from a distance, and of course seeing the alien come out of what is seemingly the ship, amazing stuff. And the way the Alien was hid in the darkness among the machine wires is some of the most masterful use of lighting I’ve ever seen. Ridley Scott’s greatest without a doubt and this movie’s inspiration behind all horror and sci-fi of the past 40 years is very evident. I see why some people might not like this, because it’s definitely a slow-burner and not that much action, but MAN, did I love this. One of the best movies ever made. Also credit to Harvey Dean Stanton for his role too, such a great watch.
