Hamnet
I'm literally a MESS right now. I ended up sobbing my eyes out because the emotions in this film are just WAY too real. I expected a typical portrayal of grief, but the ”stages of grief” offered here are so much more intense than I ever imagined.
The absolute most heartbreaking part for me has to be the ”exchange”. Hamnet literally volunteering to take his twin Judith’s place at the edge of death... it’s such a deep, metaphysical bond that I can’t even put into words. He basically traded his life for hers.
And, I realized that the whole play was just a giant love letter to his wife, basically telling her she’s not alone in her grief and that the world will remember their son forever. It’s honestly the most beautiful way to handle a loss, it shows how art can actually bring back what’s been lost. It creates this space where someone can finally talk to the people they’ve lost, giving them a voice even after they’re gone. how the hell am I supposed to recover from this film...
