Squid Game
I hate to give it such a low rating but what can I say.
Season 1, though I find it overrated, was and still is a very solid, beautifully made season of television. Dark themes, heartbreaking moments, all that good stuff.
Season 2, an admittedly fun season. i personally enjoyed it more than the first one. fun and unique characters, beautiful cinematography, very fun and iconic games that live up for the OGs. It’s a derivative of the first one and its mere existence already kind of muddled the messaging.
Season 3, which I would call 2.5 but it’s such a wild down grade that I have to separate them :/
The characters are so much less interesting and their dynamics are so surface level it feels like a parody of itself. Other than the mother and son I don’t think a single character had a nice moment about them that made them feel anything more than filler characters to be killed off dramatically. (Looking at you witch lady or old fat man OR ANY OF THOSE FILLER FINALISTS)
The games, unmemorable, which is a crime considering this is called squid GAME.
It raises interesting ideas but I feel it never managed to get beyond that point, delve deeper.
season 1 kind of showed that the creator isn’t the best at writing satisfying endings. (Very relatable) and this finale imo further proves it. Though this time it did finally (kind of) conclude the character arcs and main plot and I actually really like the baby plotline and the overall gloomy messaging. It still made it all fall flat with a lame ass set up to a potential spin off.
