Bullet Train
You dirty f&$ing Diesel.*
From the opening score of ‘Staying Alive’ (in Japanese), this film is an absolute joy. Every thread is interesting, every character is full of soul and hear and comedy.
As an action, you’re expecting over-the-top fight scenes, but each one is deliberate. They aren’t just inserted randomly into the film, they have purpose. They’re used for exposition and character development, but I think my favourite aspect is the theming.
Every fight scene has something different about it. It could be in a ‘quiet car’, where the characters have to stifle grunts and blows, or in the pantry, where they fight using food and utensils.
Also - the symbolism?! Far too extensive to get into. Just watch it. A couple times.
Rewatched what is already one of my favourite films on my A-Level results day, so maybe my review’s a little biased.
I love this movie. So much.
